James Haywood

Aerospace Engineer, designer, Artist

James Haywood is a French and British artist/designer, currently living and working between Montpellier and Hyères-les-Palmiers, in France.

Drawing inspiration from the landscapes of southern France and the vastness of the cosmos, James’s work is rooted in the Earth while reaching toward the unknown. His sculptures invite contemplation, encouraging viewers to zoom out, to see both the insignificance and significance of our place in the universe.

James approaches his work with a mindset of deep curiosity for materials, structures, and forms. His creations stem from the desire to explore the most remarkable materials and techniques, often straddling the fine line between what is structurally sound and what is barely possible.

His creations delve into the complex relationship between humanity and nature, driven by his commitment to addressing today’s pressing environmental challenges. This work goes beyond aesthetics, offering a potent commentary on the urgent need for a global perspective in confronting issues like climate change and biodiversity loss.

By celebrating innovative, sustainable materials, his sculptures serve as a call to action, inviting viewers to rethink their connection to the planet and to recognise the intricate web of life that binds us all.
